ST1 & ST2 Study Sessions - for London & KSS

These are a series of monthly study sessions designed to support ST1 & ST2 cytology training.

All sessions will be held via Microsoft Teams and will be hosted by the LRCTC

A timetable of sessions will be issued to all ST1's & ST2's indicating topics to be covered by each session. Generally each session will cover two topic areas: one on gynaecological cytology and one on a non-gynaecological topic. Each topic area will last 1.5 hours, consisting of a 30 min lecture / 45 min interactive case presentation / 15 min Q&A.

Invitations to join these meetings will be sent out from the LRCTC and attendees will be given access to supportive educational resources via the LRCTC website.

CYTOLOGY MEDICAL LABORATORY ASSISTANTS COURSE

This is a course designed for MLA's as commissioned by our LRCTC User Group. It is a one day introductory course designed to cover topics such as an overview of the NHSCSP, terminology, role of an MLA and audit. The course is structured to make full use of interactive teaching resources.

SAMPLE TAKER INITIAL TRAINING

Formally known as the Foundation Course, the content & structure of this course has been revised in 2020 to meet on-line requirements for re-accreditation status by The Royal College of Nursing.

Please Note: The formal training will take place over a one-week period. The first date indicates when initial registration takes place and introductory on-line discussion via MS Teams (3hrs) There will then be a period of self-directed learning and support leading to the final date when there will be a practical classroom session (1 day). Details and location may vary dependent upon local requirements

N.B. Dates for 29th Sept & 6th Oct, and 18th & 25th Nov, are specifically for sample-takers within South-West London, with the half-day practical session taking place within the local area.

This course is designed for qualified and registered nurses, nursing associates, midwifes, physican associates, integrated sexual health care professionals or GMC doctors wishing to undertake cervical samples as part of their work. The course content is in line with National Guidance and  comprises of pre-course distance learning material, on-line course modules, and classroom teaching

This is a modular course held over a 1 week period with continual on-line assessments, discussion forums, and designated classroom sessions all of which are mandatory components. Classroom sessions will be held at the London Regional Cytology Training Centre at Northwick Park Hospital unless otherwise stipulated. Lectures will be given by both experienced practitioners and cytologists.

A period of supervision and mentoring in required following the course in order to reach qualified status. For this it is essential that, on application, that a designated mentor and external assessor have been assigned.

Acceptance onto this course will be subject to a vetting process to ensure that all applicants are suitably qualified and that nominated mentors are up to date with their own training and registration; a suitable process must also be in place to ensure that an external assessor can be assigned to the applicant

The Royal College of Nursing cannot confirm the competence of any practitioner who completes this course

ASSESSORS / MENTORS Update for Sample-taker Training

This is an on-line 2 hour update for qualified and registered nurses, midwives, physician associates, and GMC doctors who wish to act as cervical screening mentors and external assessors. 

N.B. This training is currently only offered to London-based trainers

The training will be via MS Teams and will run from 9.30 am until 11.30 am. A link to the meeting will be sent out upon successful application

This update is designed to explain the roles and responsibilites of cervical screening mentors and external assessors whilst also providing an update on current training requiremens and developments witihin the NHS CSP

Acceptance onto this course will be subject to a vetting process to ensure that all applicants are suitably qualified and are up to date with their own training and registration. 

N.B. By applying for this course you are giving permission for your details to be passed to your local Training Hub in order for them to maintain a register of external assessors within their area.
