INTRODUCTORY COURSE IN GYNAECOLOGICAL CYTOLOGY [NHSCSP Diploma] - (Thinprep®)

A full time four week course which is suitable for trainee Cytoscreeners or BMSs with little or no gynaecological cytology experience.Trainees must be employed in a Cytopathology Laboratory and gained some basic microscopy experience as recommended by NHSCSP guidelines. All participants will be invited to attend a one week Follow-Up course one year later at no extra cost.

FOLLOW UP COURSE: NHSCSP Diploma  - (Thinprep®)

A five day course for candidates who have previously attended the NHSCSP Introductory Course in Gynaecological Cytology.

PRE - EXAM COURSE FOR SITTING NHSCSP DIPLOMA IN CERVICAL CYTOLOGY - (Thinprep®)

Five day course for candidates preparing to sit the NHSCSP Diploma in Cervical Cytology.

LBC Conversion Course

1 day conversion course for cytologists trained in Surepath LBC technique who wish to convert to Thinprep LBC.

BMS/CYTOSCREENER UPDATE COURSE - (Thinprep®)

This is a three day course for experienced Biomedical Scientists and Cytoscreeners designed to refresh their knowledge and keep up to date with current trends. It meets all NHSCSP mandatory triennial update requirements for biomedical scientists and cytoscreeners.

This course is not suitable for candidates preparing for the Diploma in Cervical Cytology examination.

Please note: This course is updated every 3 years with the next new cycle due to commence in 2017.

The current course dates are only applicable to candidates who have not had an update since 2014.

The respiratory tract two day non-gynae course is designed for qualified BMSs and covers many aspects of the IBMS Advanced Specialist Certificate (General Level) syllabus, including specimen preparation techniques, anatomy, and histology. Normal cellular features, contaminants and artefacts, features of malignancy will be covered both by lectures and practical microscopy sessions.

The serous fluid two day non-gynae course is designed for qualified BMSs and covers many aspects of the IBMS Advanced Specialist Certificate (General Level) syllabus, including specimen preparation techniques, anatomy, and histology. Normal features including cellular composition of effusions, features associated with reactive change and malignancy will be covered by formal lectures and practical microscopy

The urinary tract two day non-gynae course is designed for qualified BMSs and covers many aspects of the IBMS Advanced Specialist Certificate (General Level) syllabus, including specimen preparation techniques, anatomy, and histology. Recognition of normal cellular constituents, inflammation, atypia and malignancy will be covered by practical microscopy sessions and formal lectures.

A one-day course on gynaecological cytology designed for consultant pathologists and to refresh their knowledge and keep up to date with current trends in the NHSCSP.

Due to popular demand we have added an optional half day mock exam which will be held on the last day of the course for those waiting to take MRCPath exam.

The department is open from 9-5 pm Monday to Fridays

CYTOLOGY MEDICAL LABORATORY ASSISTANTS COURSE

This is a course designed for MLA's as commissioned by our LRCTC User Group. It is a one day introductory course designed to cover topics such as an overview of the NHSCSP, terminology, role of an MLA and audit. The course is structured to make full use of interactive teaching resources.

SAMPLE TAKER FOUNDATION COURSE

This course is designed only for qualified and registered  nurses or doctors wishing to undertake cervical samples as part of their work. The course comprises of both classroom teaching and pre-course distance learning material.The syllabus is officially provided by the NHSCSP Taking Samples for Cervical Screening training 2006 and the

 INTERIM  (on line only) Good Practice Guidance for Cervical Sample Takers NHSCSP Good Practical Guide No 2 July 2011

As from January 2018 the Sample Taker Foundation Course will be a 2 day course which will be held at the London Regional Cytology Training Centre at Northwick Park Hospital. Lectures will be by both practitioners and cytologists and will include a tour of the cytology laboratory.

SAMPLE TAKER UPDATE COURSE

This half day study day is designed to provide up-to-date information on sample taking and examine future trends in cervical cytology and will be held at the LRCTC at Northwick Park Hospital.

Morning session starts 9am finishes at 12.30 pm

Afternoon commences at 13.00h and finishes at 17.00h

onclick e-LEARNING FOR CERVICAL SMEAR SAMPLE TAKERS - UPDATE

The London Regional Cytology Training Centre in conjunction with the IT company On Click have put together an on line e-learning update for qualified sample takers to fulfill their continuing professional development requirements.

LRCTC's experienced senior tutors have selected training material published by the NHS including the important data from the Cervical Screening Programme and with OnClick have published this in an easy to navigate format to ensure that all students can be updated on the very latest advances as well as important refresher topics.

An example of some of the topics covered are: Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and HPV testing, essentials of the screening programme,HPV vaccines, zero tolerance, future trends and how does the screening programme work ?

There is also a self testing section and you will be able to print off a certificate after successful completion of the module which can be uploaded as evidence of CPD onto the new NHS England sample taker computer registration system.
